A question about storing food

Ok, I really should know this kind of thing by now, and if I hadn't have moved out of home about 10 years ago I'd call my mum for this answer (if I did she'd probably wet herself laughing, she thinks I can cook)

Anyway, if my husband has made a pasta bake (chicken, pasta, bottled pasta bake sauce from the supermarket) on a Tuesday, and has cooked the chicken, pasta and sauce, then put it in an oven dish, covered it with cling wrap and refrigerated it with the intention of doing the 'baking' part of it (adding the cheese and popping it in the oven) later on...

a. how long can this be kept in the refrigerator?

b. can it be baked on Friday straight from the refrigerator?

c. does it need to be frozen, then baked Friday (if it can be frozen)?

Thank goodness I have a husband who can cook!

  1. first of all i think you are funny!!  secondly i think putting it in the fridge until friday should be fine, put in on the bottom shelf and when you reheat it just make sure that it is heated all the way through properly.  Hope this helps happy reheating  he he xox

  2. I think it's better if it's frozen rather than putting it in the ref since it has sauce and cheese and all.

But if in ref.  I think you can keep it there for a couple of days.

  3. Rule of thumb, if your fridge runs at 20 degrees it will keep til Friday. But to be sure get a fridge thermometer to keep tabs on it incase it changes.

Other wise whenin doubt freeze it and pull to thaw 1 day in the am before baking it off.

I do alotta frozen dinners like this, great time saver if your super busy usually or a new parent

  4. If the refrigerator is real cold it will keep until Friday.  Best bet, is freeze it today and let then take it out on Thurs and let it defrost in the refridgerator until Friday

  5. That pasta is going to soak up the liquid and blow up like a balloon.  You better freeze it before the pasta gets any more swollen.

  6.   you should really use chicken asap after thawing it ...... it could develop bacteria and be spoiled.  dont re-freeze and thaw,3-5 days if kept cold in fridge.
