A question about the blades on figure skates??

I was just wondering what the coating is on the part of the blade which does not touch the ice and if it is important for stopping the blade from going rusty? It is just that I had a nasty fall on the ice and I took a bit off near the top pick on one blade and a bit on the tail of the blade on the other blade. Can you recover it? Any help will be great, thanks!

  1. I don't think there is a coating.  Blades are metal.  Unless you have Paramount Blades.  Then they are coated with paint that tends to chip.  I think what you probably did when you fell was "nick" your blades.  The only way to recover this would be to get your sskates sharpened and get that part sharpened off.

  2. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Its just to keep the wood on  your boot from getting all nasty. If you want to fix it [there really isnt need to spend the money] take it to your rink and ask your coach about it

    :)

  3. It doesnt matter if they have some anti-rust thing on them, if you leave them wet after every skate they will start to go rusty anyway. Just keep wiping them and keeping them dry when youre done using them.

  4. I would take your skates to the person who usually sharpens them,  They may be able to get rid of the nicks on your blades and they are professionals so they will know best way to do it.  Some more experienced skaters may be able to do something with a honing stone but I would hesitate to suggest anyone with our level of experience try it in case we made situation worse.  In meantime just keep blades clean and dry.  Best of luck.
