I have a question about the book/movie "Princess Bride" by William Goldman. I'm suppose to read "Princess Bride" for school. Along with "The Golden Compass" by Philip Pullman and another book. Both are very large books, and i just don't have that much time to read them. So i was wondering if the book ("Princess Bride") and the movie were similar in any way. If i absolutely need to read it, i will.

  1. The movie is like the book, but the book has many tidbits the film doesn't have. I suggest you read it. It's actually a really quick read.

    ♥M♥

  2. Why is it so hard to make time to read them? I can read a good, long book in a weekend, or spread out across the entire school week. All you have to do is make a good effort to fit the reading in. Anyway, if you find them entertaining, and you don't waste your free time, there's no reason not to read both. AND that other book. Anyway, I have yet to read the book of The Princess Bride, but movies always have to cut a good portion of what appears in the book.

  3. so you read a chapter a night, maybe 2, how long can that take?  Skip going on this website for a while and read that book.  Loved the movie so I bet the book is great, lots of little extras and fun information the movie had to leave out.

  4. "The Princess Bride" is a short book.  And it's GOOD.  Very funny.  Unlike "The Golden Compass" which is only moderately interesting .... some of the time.

Go ahead and start reading.  Even a slow reader should finish it in 3 evenings and still have plenty of time for their other homework.  There are pieces you will miss if you only watch the movie.  Things like character backstory, and motivations.  Things teachers like to test you on to see if you really read the book or just read the Cliff Notes or watched the movie.

AFTER you read the book, watch the movie.  You'll understand and enjoy the movie a LOT more once you've read the book.

  5. It's been a long time since I've read or seen The Princess Bride. Both were excellent, and it seems like the movie was fairly true to the book, but using the film instead of the book is always a bad idea, because teachers are obviously aware of big movies and the temptation to substitute them for the books and differences may come up in tests.

The Golden Compass: sorry, never read or seen.

  6. well, the movie was awesome, but i suggest that you read the book, because books always go so much more in to depth than movies. i'm sure you will get a better grade if you read the book. if i were you, i would watch the movie too, because it rocks!
