A question about the christian faith?

How do you necassarily become a christian. My parents are christians and I think I'm one. Do you become a christian by praying to God that he will be with me always and to forgive my sins? I just never got this and I want to clear this up.

We have to see that we are sinners without hope of separation from our sin apart from the Atonement.  We have to accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, that means giving up our right to ourselves, giving up our sins.  We accept the free gift of God at the cross, which is not gained by works of man lest any man should boast.  John 3:7 says "you must be born again."  Christ must come to live in our hearts cleansing us of all our sin."  We accept by faith that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to pay for our sins, and was raised to life on the third day.  

The only struggle we have with getting saved is that we must admit to our sins and let them fully go, having no more relationship with sin.

We have to have a relationship with Christ; He must be our Lord; we must not be our own god.  Our human nature wants to be our own god.  Our flesh wants to do whatever it 'feels' like doing.  We cannot let our bodies control us, we have to control our bodies.  Left unsaved, sin is our god.

According to the Bible you become a Christian when God draws you to the Lord Jesus and gives you the gift of faith via his indwelling Holy Spirit.

If you feel drawn to Christ then you can respond by confessing that you have sinned and broken God's laws, that you deserve to be punished, but you believe that God sent the Lord Jesus to pay your penalty. Tell Him that you want Jesus to be the Lord of your life and ask Him to save you and to give you his Holy Spirit in Jesus' name.

You become a Christian by seeking God out earnestly and with humility and you ask that He reveal His Son to you.

Well, why do you "think" you are a Christian?

Do you believe that Jesus is God in the flesh, and that only He could take away the curse of sin from you, and give you eternal life with Him?

Do you understand that there is no way you can ever be perfect, but that you can, with God's help, be more and more the person He created you to be?

Do you understand every mother's child of us is in exactly the same situation, whether we like to admit it or not?

Are you willing to let Jesus into your heart and life, so that He can begin making you over into a brand new person...a person who is able to love others even as He does?

Well, then, you are a Christian, already. Thank Him.

Why not? What is holding you back from trusting Him with you life?

Christianity is a way of life. You begin by confessing your sins TO GOD and repenting of them. You pray to God through His Son Jesus Christ to wash you clean of them.

Then begins your actual daily WALK!

You must read/study the scriptures daily. Join and get involved in a church that teaches salvation through Jesus Christ alone.

When you realize you are in need of the Lord, you ask for His forgiveness, and ask Him to come into your life then you would be saved. How do you know you're saved? Are you having faith that when a problem comes, you believe that God can get you through it? If you go to church willingly to serve with faith, that's another thing you can see that you're a Christian. If you can claim Jesus is Lord, you're a Christian. Yeah many ways. Even asking about it now means that you're seeking truth and not just wanting to go through life without acknowledging it.

As long as you believe in god you can do whats ever you have the will to do, s***w as many people in the business world or sleep with your sister as long as you believe you will be saved. This works really well in a capitalistic country of greed and lairs.

Salvation is offered to Humanity by the Savior YAHOSHUA.  It is like a marriage contract.  Take His name, follow His rules, you become His bride, and He saves you.  It takes faith that works.  It takes Faith in the real Savior, not some plastic imitation.

I am not a Christian but perhaps a different view might help. I think it all boils down to conviction and consciousness. If you are deep down, truly happy with what Christianity has to offer and believe in what it teaches then you are a Christian.

Were you baptized? There are so many ways to be a Christian. The first is accepting Jesus as the Christ. After that is treating others with respect and tolerance (not exclusive to Christianity.) Praying of course for others.

You may want to take it a step further and try to understand God's message for us today. This is an excellent site to begin that journey and  understand what it is all about. Don't worry about sins and forgiveness, you can end up feeling guilty. I'm fallible and God fixed that with Christ's crucifixion.

Being a Christian simply means having a believe in the divinity of Jesus.  If you believe that, you are a Christian.
