Question:

A question about the hymen?

Ok so i was reading something today and it said that sometimes when the police and investigating rape or a statutory rape a doctor examines the 'victim' to check if their hymen is broken.

But i also know that the hymen can be broken even if you havnt had s*x, by other things like bike riding.

So isn't this a really unfair thing to try and prove a crime that could send a man to jail even if he was innocent? and do they still do things like that?

Just wanting to know a bit about how it really works.

Thanks :)

  1. im no expert but im pretty sure that it can be broken doing some everyday activities. they dont only determine by the ripping. they check for s***n and other things

  2. they dont just look for the hymen to be broken, they look for evidence of s***n, fluid, anything like that as well, to see if they can gather evidence.

they also check for signs of forced penetration or recent sexual activity, such as bruising, tearing, rashes etc.

they will also take swabs to check for STD's

they would not just conclude that the hymen was broken, therefore a sexual assault must have taken place.

rape is a very hard crime to convict.

  3. The hymen can be broken whilst doing sport and other activties.

Thats unfair, i diddnt think the ydid things like this anymore.

When looking for rape sighns they should be looking for cuts, marks, bruises, rashs and consult the victim.

  4. The hymen is overrated and can be broken due to physical activity.

They are looking for signs of unwanted s*x, bruises, rashes, etc, and not a hymen.
