A question about the olympics?

I am watching the mens diving on the olympics and have one question:

Can some one please explain why jumping in the water is an olympic sport?

they have to do all those twists and difficult moves.

Your question is quite natural.I think driving into the water is a nice game.This game indicate the skill of a man about jump into the water.

I enjoy diving..looks extremely difficult

Is that the only Olympic sport you can question?! How about table tennis or badminton. I think springboard diving is actually a solid event, though.....that i will never watch all the way through.
