Question:

A question about the toad living in my yard?

There's a toad that's been living in my yard all summer. I didn't even know toads could survive on hot, dry land like that, but either way I know I probably shouldn't "save" it because it seems rather happy, but I worry about it when the lawn is mowed and things like that. How do I find out what kind of toad it is at least? Will it stick around in the winter too? How is it surviving without water?

  1. You know I have the same issue, but the toad that hangs around is usually in the garage because we keep the garage open just about 5 inches during the day to help keep the garage as cool as possible.

But the last time I cut the grass in the backyard I saw it jumping off the grass and under a blocked off section of an orange tree as to not get mowed. Sometimes we see a bunch of little toads jumping around as well. We have been having these toads around for years. They usually drink water from when it rains and during the morning dew that forms on plant leaves.  I don't see them in the winter time, maybe they are the hibernating type and don't wake up until spring.

  2. Toads live on dry land. Frogs live near and in water. Leave the little guy be, if he's survived all summer then he's fine.He is getting water somewhere otherwise he couldn't live this long.
