  2. Why is the priesthood of Melchizedek special and why does it last forever?

In the New Testament, the entire 7th chapter of the book of Hebrews is devoted to the priesthood of Yeshua, and to the Melchizedek connection. There are some very interesting details in Hebrews 7, which clue us into who Melchizedek was, and together with this matrix, I believe this mystery has been solved. Melchizedek is Yeshua! He is the second in the trinity, the righteousness of Yahweh, which is Yeshua. Here are some of the basics:

If you look at his name or title, Melchizedek (Melkhey-Tsedek) is translated as King of Righteousness. Who could be king of righteousness, but Yeshua our Messiah? Melchizedek was the king of Shalem, which is king of peace. Yeshua is known as the prince of peace. Who could be king of peace over Yeshua? No one! Melchizedek was without father or mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life. Who could this be said of, other than God himself? No one! Melchizedek has an indestructible life and abides a priest perpetually. No human could fit this bill. And could there be two who abide as a priest to God forever (a man and also Yeshua)? It was also said that Melchizedek was made in the image or likeness of the Son of God. This could be taken as the image of the son of God (the second in the trinity) or as the image of the begotten son of God, when the Lord took on a fleshly body. But they are one and the same.

I looked this up on the internet.....i learned something new today.....great question!

  3. He was a king of the most high God,no genealogy no mother, no father,,no beginning or end of days.Salem means peace He was a high priest of peace likened to Jesus.

  4. He would appear to be a sort of Yahwist - an early (pre-Mosaic) worshiper of Yahweh.  Remember, Abraham and his descendants, the Jews, worshiped Yahweh *without* the benefit / instructions of Mosaic Law for centuries.  Melchizedek appears to have been similarly involved in this pre-Mosaic Law worship of Yahweh.

The New Jerusalem Bible, Regular Edition says this

'Ps 76:2, the whole subsequent Jewish tradition, and many of the Fathers identify Salem with Jerusalem.  Its priest-king Melchizedek (the name is Canaanite, cf. Adoni-Zedek, king of Jerusalem, Jos 10:1) worships the Most High God, El-Elyon, a compound name, each element of which is attested as a name of gods in the Phoenician pantheon.  Elyon is used in the Bible (especially Psalms) as a divine title.  In this passage, v. 22, El-Elyon is identified with the true God of Abraham.  Melchizedek makes a brief and mysterious appearance in the narrative as king of that Jerusalem where Yahweh will choose to dwell, as priest  of the Most High before the levitical priesthood was established.  Ps 110:4 represents him as a figure of David, who is himself a figure of the Messiah who is both king and priest; the application to Christ's priesthood is worked out in Heb 7.  Patristic tradition has developed and enriched this allegorical interpretation:  in the bread and wine offered to Abraham it sees an image of the Eucharist and even a foreshadowing of the Eucharistic sacrifice. * Here vv. 18-20 are additional and later than the rest of the ch., Melchizedek being shown with the characteristics of a post-exilic high priest, heir to the prerogatives of the monarch and head of the priesthood, to whom Abraham's descendants pay their tithes (tenth part).
