There must be absolute limit to the number of different turns a game of chess can take. If one counted up all the possible legal moves open to each side, how many different games of chess can be played?

  2. sorry dude, don't know that one, but i do know that there are 100billion billion moves in checkers

  3. A game a chess could infinitely go on with repeating moves.

  4. Suppose you have an average of 30 options per move.  This is of course a rough figure and will vary as the game progress.  So even for *just* the first 10 moves for each side, there are 30^20 possible combinations,  

    This is approximately 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00...

    .

  5. The longest tournament game ever played was something like 178 moves.  Technically the game does not need to end.
