Do you ever help others without mentioning your beliefs? Do you offer up your charitable time without an ulterior motive?

If so, can you give an example?

  1. That would be a big fat "NO"

  2. I do believe that some Christians help from their heart and not their buy-bull.

  3. yes i do, and i would call it an act of random kindness, its not about the glory of being praised for being a christian its about the thought that you know you helped somone.

  4. I feed the homeless every weekend. Get out of my head!  (((((UP)))))

Oh wait, I'm not a christian.

  5. Great question  UP.

  6. Yes. I help people in school with their work.

I also just wanted to throw this verse out there

Mathew 26:45"Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'

  7. Without mentioning my beliefs?  Yes. I can't explain my beliefs here with a clear head and a few hours to spare - nobody needs me to bore them with that stuff!

Without an ulterior motive?  No.  Helping others makes me feel good.  Of course, I only feel good if I can see I've made a positive difference, but it's still a motive.

    .

  8. Don't be ridiculous

As soon as I lay the table with food, I tell everybody I'm Catholic and they better d**n well say their prayers before they eat...

  9. Good point, i have raised similar point to this before. If an atheist does a good dead, its probably because they're a good person, but if a Christian does it, maybe its because they want to go to heaven!

BUT, is this a bad thing? I think we are being unfair on religion a bit, because if Religion encourages a war, or someone dies because of it, atheists will use that against the religion,

But here Religion is encouraging people to do good, so that's a good thing, it must be. even if the people who are doing it dont want to, good is still being done because of religion!

LOL...christianity cant win either way with us atheists!

  10. Yes. Christians aren't a different kind of person. We can still want to help people out without wanting something else in return.

I volunteer at my dance studio, I've helped out at the animal shelter, and a lot of other little things that I do to help other people without wanting anything else in return.

  11. Why are you asking set-up questions?  You know we Christians are not supposed to do our charitable deeds in the open in order to get praise from men, let alone come into this forum and start bragging about them.  I expect nothing less from the tempter!  Your name doesn't mean "deceiver" for nothing I see.

  13. I think some do. I think we are all inflicted with Freudian complexes.

  14. ((((UP))))

All the time. Truth be told, I don't recall EVER mentioning my being a Christian to anyone I've helped in passing.  If they ask, I tell them I believe in God, sure, I'm not going to lie, just don't ask me to go all in depth about my beliefs. I don't feel comfortable talking about it to everyone. Every morning before I go to work I offer to buy Ted (the homeless man in front of the Dunkin Donuts by the subway) coffee or breakfast whenever I see him. He's usually there twice a week. There is no ulterior motive. He's a smart guy and I enjoy chatting with him, to h**l with the looks I get, that's the problem of the insecure superficial folks I don't care one iota about.  He told me he's read "The Fountainhead". I hated that book and he bored me to tears rehashing his favorite parts but I listened. He loved it, so I bought it for him. That's just one example. I let people pass me sometimes when I'm driving when I don't have to, I don't stick my head out the car window and yell  "Dude! You're lucky I'm a Christian!!!!"....=0)

  15. He he...I'd love to see that!

In Christianity there's nothing for nothing and no chicks are free

  16. Yes, I do. I've never forced my beliefs on anyone else because I think that it is wrong to to try to change someone or give advice without their consent.

    Point in case:

I once had a boyfriend who was going through a hard time. I was consoling him when he told me flat out, "I don't believe in God because so many bad things have happened." I simply said, "Okay." He looked shocked that I really didn't care because he knew that I was a Christian.

Later he said "Im surprised that you didn't try to convince me there was a God when I said I dont believe." And I told him, "If thats what you believe, I cant change that. Just how you can't make me change my beliefs, I cant expect to be the person who changes your belief system."

  17. We just want to speak the truth about the gospel. Yes, there are many times we help others. Example 1, sending money to help the hungry children in all parts of the world. We don't go around telling all people to get the glory, but we do this in secret for God. Example 2, seeing elderly people walking home from the grocery store in the heat with a bag of groceries in hand-we pick them up and take them home. There are so many things we can do to help all people-not just the Christians. We should Love everyone with Godly love. If we don't, we truly don't know God. I'm saying that all people should love all people. What are we saying when we just love our own brothers and sisters in Christ? God loves everyone, and He shows no partiality in us-so why should we?

  18. Sometimes I do things without mentioning God and sometimes I don’t. It depends on the situation. However, I do believe in giving credit where credit is due. If the reason that I helped someone is because I know God was telling me to and the person tries to thank me I’ll let them know that God told me to do it. This is so the person can see how God used me to have an impact on their life.

  19. i'm not a christian, but christians help me all the timewithout mentioning their beliefs.  christians volunteer time a lot without an ulterior motive.  i mean maybe their motive is to feel better or make the world a better place or to contribute.

a guy named john helped me prepare for my cp81a on a saturday.

i know he is a strong christian but he didn't mention it during the entire 8 hours he was helping me.
