A question for German people out there about "Ich Bin Ein Berliner!"?

Is this true?

I just saw a very funny comedy video saying that when President Kennedy said "Ich Bin Ein Berliner!" he was actually calling himself a "Berliner", which apparently is a kind of dough-nut in Germany, like the Frankfurter and Hamburger are other kinds of food named after cities! Is it true that a "Berliner" in a kind of dough-nut in Germany? Is it also true that he should he have said "Ich Bin Berliner!"?

He was saying "I am Berlin", roughly translated.  Berliners are a German donut.  Berlin is a city in Germany.

Yes it's true. A berliner is a type of pastry and the correct phrase should have been "Ich bin Berliner". A person from Frankfurt would never say "Ich bin ein Frankfurter", they would say "Ich bin Frankfurter".
