Is it true that all Jehovah's Witness' do not read harry potter. I am against it myself because I believe it is nothing but witchcraft. So if all of you don't read it, what is the reason?

  1. I don't think they have an "official" position, but most JWs I've encountered reject HP for the reason you mentioned.

I've never read Harry Potter but thank God for the books.  My daughter, who wasn't a strong read, became a strong reader because of those books without any ill effects...she didn't become a Satanist or Witch trying to cast spells on people.  Basically, it's the story of good overcoming evil set in a "witchcraft" setting...but it's still Good vs Evil...right vs wrong....and good wins.

  2. jws are mindless slaves they seal shut their imagination and live a life as servants i pitty them truly

keep worshiping a group of shady folks called the watch tower

  3. Harry Potter is a fairy tail. A new fairy tail, but a fairy tail none the less.

Remember, it is not what goes in to a man that defiles him, but what comes out!!!

  4. well thats silly that you dont read it because it has witches and wizards. pshh its just fantasy anyway its not like witchery is real, move with the times.

  5. I wouldn't read it because of the same reasons you do. I'm pretty sure that others of my faith feel the same way.

  6. i'm not a witness, but i was brought up as one and my family are witnesses.  it's generally frowned upon to read, watch or involve yourself with anything to do with witchcraft etc.

  7. Harry Potter is Not discussed. Common Sense tells one its not Up-building. The Apostle Paul wrote “Brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well spoken of, whatever virtue there is and whatever praiseworthy thing there is, continue considering these things.”—Philippians 4:8.

HP is neither True, righteous, chaste, well spoken of or Praiseworthy..need I go on?

  8. Even if you're religious, why the h**l would you want to read Harry Potter? I actually prefer fantasy like God of War series, but Harry Potter? Come on now, too much fantasy equals a nerd convention. Also, Jehovah Witness' NEED to read a book however instead of knocking at my d**n door all day. I mean, why didn't God tell that I was a f*cking Atheist, and that I would slam the door in your face? Oh yes, I got it, because he doesn't exist. Therefore, stay away from my house JWs, and read Harry Potter or anything to keep you occupied.

  9. Jehovah's Witnesses strive to live by the Bible standards. one of which is by not engaging in any form of spiritism.  All forms of spiritism are disapproved by Jehovah God. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12; Revelation 21:8; 22:15)

It is true that in reading HP (and the like) we are not directly engaging in spiritism.  However, what we often read most of the time affects how we think, speak, and act.  Also, we often read a book because we find pleasure and entertained in the subject.  So if the subject of what we often read is witchcraft, violence or others, are we entertained?  If yes, are those subject pleasurable to Jehovah?  If not, why still read it?

There are no specific books which we are told not to read.  But Bible standards help us to be selective.  It is important then to us and others to train our conscience according to Bible standards.

The Bible says: "To the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion [to them] is wearisome to the flesh" (Eccl 12:12).  It is impossible to read all the booksm it is wearisome to flesh as the verse tell us.  It is important then to be SELECTIVE.

Before I became a JW, I read Lord of the Rings, (The Two Towers & The Return of the King).  But now I prefer spending my time in reading the Bible and our Bible-based publicaitions.

Philippians 4:8 tells us: "whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well spoken of, whatever virtue there is and whatever praiseworthy thing there is, continue considering these things"

Considering those things will help our relationship with God grow.

    Good day =)
