A question for Nurses or CNMs?

What is the difference between a CNM and a Nurse working in obstetrics? Is the schooling different? Is the pay different? Im confused.

  1. A CNM is a Registered Nurse (with at least a bachelor's degree in the science of nursing) who has a master's degree in Midwifery.  They are specially trained in providing gynecological care, prenatal care and childbirth (they deliver babies without physicians being present.)  Requirements and laws regarding the practice of midwifery vary by each individual state.  

    Many midwives specialize in home birth or work in birthing centers as opposed to delivering babies strictly in hospitals.
