yesterday i was playing at a practice and there was a deep lob, i was being tightly persued by another much larger player on the opposite team so i stoped and stood, sort of like a box out in basketball, exept with less contact. Anyways, cuz i stoped him another player on my team was able to run by, catch it and score. we didn't call anythigh cuz we didn't know what it was. My question, is that "boxout" legal?

  1. Of Course.... thats just good strategy

  2. As long as there was no movement whatsoever on your part, I think the rules are in your favor.

However, I personally consider it poor sportsmanship and very bad spirit to intentionally "box out" a player going for a throw that you are not going after.

  3. It sounds like it might be against the following rule, depending on the circumstances:

XVI.3.C.1. When the disc is in the air a player may not move in a manner solely to prevent an opponent from taking an unoccupied path to the disc and any resulting non-incidental contact is a foul on the blocking player which is treated like a receiving foul.
