Question:

A question for any Americans regarding your next president?

Hello from England! The Presidential race is all over our newspapers at the moment, but I do not really understand it- please could you help?

OK, what I understand:

Obama stands for the Democrats, which is like our British labour party; meant to be slightly left of centre. He seems to be the focus of much media attention here- why? Is he well liked or not, and if so, why?

McCain stands with the Republicans, right of centre (?). He is a war veteran and coverage of him doesn't seem to be as wild- why? Is he somehow more politically 'bland', or 'safe'?

I would appreciate any unbiased clarification. Am I also right in thinking that the next US President will be one of these two men- there are no other serious runners?

Thanks!

  1. Who gives a sh*t in the UK!

  2. Mr. Obama is an extreme left wing liberal.  He favors socialism, high taxes, big government.  Mr. McCain is on the liberal side of center.  He is not a conservative.

Obama has been the darling of the main stream media in the US since he started running for president.  Most in the main stream media are left wing liberal loonies...just like Obama.  Liberal newspapers and liberal news on network TV are paying the price.  Readership, viewership and ad money are falling faster than they can count.

The British main stream media are more liberal than their US counterparts.

McCain is the opposition to the media, so they don't support him.

There are no other serious candidates for president.

  3. It's simple. Democrats mean well but they're stupid and shoot themselves in the foot all the time. Republicans are crooks and steal everybody's money and stuff it in their own pockets.

  4. Bugger, you're as flooded with the US election in the UK as we are here in Australia. It's all over our TV and in our newspaper.

At first all the coverage was around who was going to win out of Obama and Hilary Clinton in the Primary Votes. There wasn't very much said about McCain then either. There has been alot of controversy surrounding Obama on several different topics. McCain being 'safe' could also be a feeling of false comfort since the current president is a Republican and the media just aren't talking about the party until after the election when they have a better chance to dog him down when he messes up.

  5. I'm not American but I'm sure no harm will come out of me answering this

Obama is the candidate for the democrats, after a long battle with Hillary Clinton, Obama won. The Democrats are left of centre on the US political scale. Now this bit is slightly confusing. The whole political scale in the US is shifted to the right from the European political sclae one we are used to. So one the political scale we use the Democrats would be classified as centre or centre right. So the Democrats are actually like our Conservative party and you can say labour now since Labour have headed the same way as the Conservatives. He is the focus of the media attention right now because at the moment because   he is young, "inexperienced" and black. Also it's the DNC (Democratic National Convention) this week were members and people associated with the Democratic Party give speeches etc. A lot of people like him because he is so different to what they have been used to for so long and promises a well needed change for the US.

Now onto McCain. He is the Republican candidate and it was a pretty easy victory for him to secure that position. On the American political scale the Republicans are right of centre, on the political scale we use they would be somewhat near the far right. He is a war veteran and a former Prisoner of war. The coverage of him in the UK is not wild because he does not represent change and his ideas and Bush's ideas are almost identical. That is why you'll see people call McCain McBush, McSame and names like this because him and Bush are almost identical. I think he is quite bland politically speaking and has nothing new to offer. However you will be seeing a lot more coverage of him next week at the RNC (Republican National Convention).

You are right in thinking that one of these two will become the next US president. It is basically a two horse race. No one else even has the smallest of chances.

    Hope I helped.

  6. You have it pretty much right.Obama is the darling of the leftist media who hate the more normal Mccain. As it stands right now they are the only two in the race.My preference was and remains Mike Huckabee. In my opinion we need a return to our original principals and values and Huckabee is just the man to do it.Mccain is more of a centrist.

  7. Our media is seriously biased, when ever the candidate needs that kind of 'help' it means he isn't going to get elected. He is weak.

  8. This because of BIAS in the liberal media. They've wanted this scumbag Barack Hussein Obama to be the next president very badly since day one.

Naturally, they are promoting him and glorifying him, while snubbing the honorable John McCain.

Barack Hussein Obama is someone who will try to instigate higher taxes on everyone, and he represents a threat to drive small business owners bankrupt. He also stands for every sick and rotten liberal cause known to mankind, including abortive murder, The Homosexual Agenda and the like.

People in our country have been mesmerized by this horrible candidate, and he has achieved a cult-like following. I suppose you could compare it to some of your soccer mobs, which have grown out of control.

I'm sad to report to you that our country is in peril because of this man, and of course, this is not going to be good for you, our ally, either. I compare him to Benedict Arnold, a notorious traitor in our history, and I consider anyone supporting him and voting for him a betrayer, as well. In fact, I'd actually rather do business with Benedict Arnold, because at least he was more honest about his treachery.

I hope I've explained it, and please pray for our survival and the safety of the entire free world. Barack Hussein Obama is an appeaser, sort of like your Neville Chamberlain who tried to appease Hitler. As you know, that man endangered your country and the entire world, as well. We simply can't have a man such as Barack Hussein Obama in this day and age of terror.

Thanks for your concern, and I hope this helps explain it.

  9. Seems as though anyone you ask has a biased opinion so it's going to be very hard to get an unbiased opinion on this really good and interesting question.

I would imagine that what you are seeing is the bias against Republicans and conservatives. By most of the large media outlets. In the US and I suspect some other countries. There has been a trend in the media to no longer present the "News" but instead, commentary or editorials in the guise of news. This is done to sway the masses in a direction which they favor. At the moment Obama is the anointed one and Republicans the party that has "supposedly cause all the problems" because they are the ones in power.

Now you'll (if you haven't already the con bashing that will take place as well as the liberal bashing) The US has become very polarized because we have not had a leader that will focus on the basic principles of The US and thus allowed themselves to be come whores and prostituting their power in grants social legislation for nothing more then votes.

  10. I don't believe the media is portraying the truth.  Obama has had a lot of media coverage, this much is true.  But, I don't believe he has the support of everyone that the media claims he has the support of.  For instance, union workers are generally democratic.  My father and my father in law are both employees/retired employees and neither one feels they will be voting for Obama.  Many of my father's friends will not be voting in this election because they will not vote for Obama and they feel it's horrible to vote Republican.  My sister in law who is very liberal is voting for McCain.  My husband and I are Republicans.  We will be voting for McCain.  It's not so much that McCain is "safe" it is he is more experienced.  Obama talks a lot and changes his message to draw people to his ways of thinking.;  He forgets that Americans are not stupid and we are capable of recognizing this unsavory trait of his.

  11. Great question!  Yes either McCain or Obama will be our next pres.  There are other contenders, but they have no chance.  Personally I wish we did have a viable third party.  Obama is not "slightly" left of center- he is the most leftist senator we have.  He want to raise taxes so that more entitlements are available to those who can't or WON'T work.  Remember why we left England (?) because of excessive taxation.  If he wins maybe we will come back (lol).  He has no experience- he servied 143 day in the senate.  He hangs out with criminals (Rezko) racists (Wright) & terrorists (Ayers).  He voted to NOT ALLOW medical treatment to babies born ALIVE in a botched abortion, but rather just to let them die.  Obama does not want us to drill for our own oil so that we can be free of our foreign dependance.  He does not want to use wind, solar, nuclear power either.  I guess he wants us to ride "donkeys" to work.  He seems to be a celebrity with the under 30 crowd who really don't understand what he is.

I know you asked for un-biased- sorry it is hard for me.  I'm not real pleased with McCain either but anyone is better than Obama in my opinion.
