A question for anyone who has or has had oil to heat the water in their house?

So we have a boiler down there, we just moved in a month ago. We have not had the heat on as it is summer time. We weren't even here for two weeks of this month, we were on vacation, so we weren't using any hot water (although whether or not the boiler heats up the water regardless I don't know). We had seventy five gallons of oil delivered when we moved in. Is it possible that that much oil could have been burned through in this short amount of time (and there are only two of us, so the two weeks we were here it's not like we have the showers and the washer machine going constantly).

It just seems too much oil to have gone through already.... Right? There is no gauge on my freakin' oil tank and so who knows if the guy we rent from is unscrupulous or if there is some kind of defective part that could cause that much oil to be burned?

The landlord mentioned something to me about the last "crazy" lady who lived here having the heat on in the summer and burning through a whole tank

  1. I assume you have an underground storage tank for the oil. I sounds like a bad leak in the tank. If this is the case, get documentation and sue the former owners. If you are renting, get the landlord to get the tank fixed.

Because of environmental issues, any repair of underground tanks MUST be done by pros. Because of this, ANY repair/replacement is going to be very expensive.
