A question for draining an inground concrete pool?

We have begun draining our pool, it is an inground concrete pool. We must drain it because we are moving and do not have a screen or fence around it and live in the state of Florida. My question is this? Can you leave this type of pool empty for any period of time? I am not really concerned about the physical damage be cause I no longer am the owner of the home, but, would not want to cause any damage to the neighboring homes or yards due to my mistake. The home is in a community where the house are very close together.

Thanks

  1. Yeah don't flood the neighbors. The pool will be just fine,But I would use a pump that can recieve a garden hose and drain it where the water will be carried away like storm drains or your toilet if necessary.

  2. no you should not leave an inground pool empty due to popup caused by the pressure of ground water, however if you must I would advise you to remove the plug in the bottom of the pool it is located in the drain and usually has a square head this will allow some of the pressure to release into the pool instead of causing lift.

  3. Could be a hazardous situation. The pressure form the water in the pool actually will hold the pool in the ground. Removing that pressure could cause the pool to "pop" out of the ground 2"-3". I have heard of this happening before. I had to change the water in mine and I left about 1/4 of the water in it. I would suggest you do the same to prevent any damage to the pool and it's piping.
