I read a lot about beardies so I understand them before I buy one, but I still am a little curious as to taking care of them. I am going to buy a beardie that is still very very young.

1.) How many crickets a day do you feed a juvenile beardie?

2.) When you feed your beardie veggies, do you use calcium powder? If so, do you use calcium only powder, or do you use powder with calcium, phosphorous, and D3?

Thank you.

  1. I agree with Bootz, but thought I should mention that reptiles carry Salmonella so be sure to wash up before touching your food. We used to have a great dragon at work. Very friendly and used to like crawling down the front of your shirt and just sitting there for hours.  Great little pets and 100% better than iguanas (Don't ask :-)).

  2. Yup, up to 100 crickets a day!  Just make sure they are the correct size--no longer than the space between the lizards eyes.  Too large and they can become impacted and paralyzed.  Only dust the insects, not the salads.  Use D3 in the calcium, but they can only absorb it if they have UVB lighting.

  3. A juvenile bearded dragon will eat anywhere from 50 to 100 crickets a day. When feeding veggies they don't need powder, but when feeding live food such as crickets or roaches you need to use Calcium(Green Bottle) and Vitamin D3(Pink bottle)

  4. Feed them as many crix as they'll eat within 5 min.
