Do any of you go to a local public school for "specials" like art/music/pe/foreign language?

  1. generally no, but depending on the local school board and how progressive they are it can happen. some school administrations are intimidated by home schooled families and don't realize that it's a choice made by the family...home schooling costs more to the family than just sending the kids to school as they still have to pay taxes to the local school board...in our town the jury is out..one family has their kids in school 1/2 time and home schooled as well...our kids are in high school and when we approached the school the counsellor challenged my wife by saying, " what makes you think you can teach "...sometimes I think we live in a town that's 30 years in the past....check with your local school board, you pay taxes......yes as an added note, our kids have taken college courses at 16 and did very well, colleges more apt to acept them as you are paying for it direct.....

  2. no way & i like it juus the way it is...

  3. I do all that at my community College, except PE I just take a dance class for that.

  4. nope :D

  5. Yes, My oldest goes to school for JR ROTC and she swims for the swim team there.  She also is taking a Spanish Class as well as an additional English class.

My youngest is going to be in the Band class at our local middle school.

  6. nope . but i'm gonna do that next year since i miss regular school :D or join 4-h

  7. Nope. For art we attend classes at museums and one at a foundry, for music we attend a homeschool band and orchestra. For PE we hike and play, and for foreign language we attend community groups and classes for German, Norwegian and Chinese.

  8. No, we either get them at co op or do electives with friends.  We also have several organizations, from private businesses and individuals to libraries and parks, that offer things like PE, art, music, dance, sports, drama, etc.

Honestly, there's more available for electives through homeschooling in our area than through public or private schools.

  9. No.

We were actually asked by our local PS.

My son was in the gifted program... when we left to homeschool, his gifted teacher asked him / us to continue with the gifted program at school.

We politely declined - it was not a very robust program.

  10. No, but we take music and martial arts classes in the community. For language my daughter has studied Spanish and Sign. We learn together.

  11. Nope

  12. I've known 2 people to do that for one or two courses, but they were both high school age. I've never heard of a jr. high or elementary school accepting it, though.

  13. nope. but I am in 4-H with alot of kids from public school.

  14. Most people I know do that sort of thing in homeschool groups or in the community (an art or music studio that offers lessons, a gym or youth program that has sports or PE programs for kids/homeschoolers). Some schools allow homeschoolers to participate in these things though.
