Question:

A question for people who claim ESP is physical like our other senses.?

Hi,

Which part of our body function for ESP?

Please don't say our brain because brain by itself shouldn't be enough for this.

Our sight and our hearing etc are also related with the brain but these senses have their other necessary organs like eyes and ears etc.

Thank you very much.

  1. Your question suggests to me that you may not be current on your theories of ESP. The term 6th sense (and even 7th sense) was coined because ESP appears to be the acquisition of information and we know that 5 senses are used to acquire information. Not all information, for instance new mathematical equations or thinking about thinking, is a direct sense derived process.

Further, most ESP tests were designed to get information from visual targets since most our sense information is visual. Some work has been done on sound targets and almost no work has been done on the other senses.

So, this information appeared to come through with visual imagery (vision being a sense). This did not mean literally that it was a new sense just that the information manifested that way. Sense theories were dismissed almost a century ago when no transmitters or receivers were found in the human brain.

I have included a link to the Parapsychological Association below if you wish to educate yourself further on the more current theories of ESP.

  2. It amazes me how some people come to terms with the world around them.  It is positively amazing how much mumbo jumbo is spewed in this category.

  3. the brain

  4. See James Randi at work on YouTube or visit his homepage (type James Randi) for the answer to your question He is the authority on the subject.

  5. First a simple answer. The body as a whole acting as an array of sensors and your mind as the central processor. By physical do you mean something that can be measured with scientific instruments or at least can be postulated with mathematics? If so, try reading an interesting paper "Psychic Phenomena - An Engineering Perspective" that was published many years ago in IEEE Proceedings or something similar. A mathematical model of the psychic 'waves' transmission was proposed in that paper. This may be like some elementary particles in physics were predicted by pure theory. Some of these have been found. Others are still elusive. Human brain generates small but measurable electrical signals such as EEG. Definite EEG patterns have been found to be linked with certain mental states such as problem solving, meditation, etc. Beyond that, the physical evidence for ESP such as remote perception and mind reading is highly controversial and has not withstood the standard scientific test of being reproduced under identical conditions. This may be due to the fact that our current physical instruments do not have the 'sensitivity' and the 'selectivity' for consistent ESP results. You may consider human mind as an instrument that learns to recognise objects from external signals through its sensors such as sight (eyes), sound (ears), smell (nose), taste (tongue), and touch/proximity (fingers/skin). It has been proven scientifically (but not explained fully) that people who lose one or more of these sensors can develop extra ordinary powers in the remaining ones. A normal person can train any one of these senses through a gradual process of learning by shutting down all but one senses and training the open one to recognise an object through, for example, by touch alone. The main problem with an average mind is that it has too much internal (or system) noise that can swamp small signals (if any) from an ESP source (if there is such a thing). In radio astronomy we call this Signal to Noise (S/N) ratio and try to design highly sensitive preamplifiers with very low system noise, e.g  by cooling them to near Absolute Zero to measure very small signals from distant stars. We also design large dish radio antennas or an array of them to focus and collect such signals and reduce the random background noise.

Similarly, human mind can be 'cooled' to reduce its noise through mystical practices such as meditation, prayer, and other intense mental focusing exercises. Only then, it may open itself to external and apparently non-physical phenomena such as ESP. Now enlarge that using a large human group experience (dish antenna array example) for further increasing the signal collection or transmission. However, when and if the individual training factor is inconsistent and non-standard, it will not lend itself to proper scientific study. That might explain why it has failed so far to convince the 'physical' scientists.

  6. "Which part of our body function for ESP?"

    I use my butt cheeks.

  7. ESP is nothing but the brain working in its most amazing way. Humans at its present evolved state use only a small percentage of its function. The more we evolve the more people will claim to have esp.

All our sensors are pluged into our brain. Eyes, nerves, ears ect. As we evolve more of our brains will be used as man reaches out to understand the world around us. ESP is the extension of our controll. if we could see and have our brain comprehend images 5 miles in front of us and the person next to you could only see 1 mile in front of him he would think that we have ESP. Our brains are the most powerfull super computers that man have ever known. If your computer ran off a single human brain we would be able to controll every computer on the planet.

ESP is just the brain. Science calls it a myth because it does not understand it. Once we can ESP will be a pill you can get from your local doctor.
