  1. Jim Z, as always, does a great job in shooting down AGW, so i'll leave that to him...however, you made another comment that is based in ignorance as well, and with just a FEW facts, you may decide to question the whole AGW "Theory" as well...

    Overpopulation...

does not exist.  We could take the entire world, move them into the state of Texas, and STILL the population density would be less than that of NY City.

The media would like us to believe it by running constant shots of starving children in Africa...but lets look at 1 country there- Niger, where the population density is only 9 persons per kilometer.  that is MINISCULE, when compared with wealthy nations like the US (28/ KM), Japan (340/ KM), Netherlands (484/ KM), and Hong Kong (6621/ KM).  the NUMBER of people CLEARLY isn't the problem.

famine is caused by things like civil war and government corruptions that interfere with the distribution of food supplies.  In Niger, 2.5 million people are starving not because of a lack of food, but because of government controlled food distribution.  in other African states such as Malawi, Mozambique, and Lesotho, famine is occurring because of the absence of property rights, pricing controls, and other cruel socialist experiements.

the NUMBER of people is not the problem.  modern technology allows more food to be grown on less land.  In fact, even the UN says that the world OVERPRODUCES food right now!

Once again, the media drums up plenty of topics to be scared of, and refuses to focus on the REAL issues....

just a little research is all it takes, man...

  2. Overpopulation is a real problem in any region where there isn't sufficient food, water, or medical care to sustain that population. Hypothetical calculations comparing the population density of New York City and Niger ignore the reality of vast regions uninhabitable by humans and existing water supply shortages even in the US.

Could the planet sustain more people?  Sure. If there was a well designed and operated sustainable energy source, optimal food production, and a flawless transportation system.  But there isn't.

  3. "climate change is another way of saying global warming." -kt

    WRONG!

"Global Warming" means eco-n***s can only use "warm" events to push their agenda.

"Climate Change" means eco-n***s can use ANY weather events to push their agenda.

"Record Cold" isn't "Global Warming."  "Record Cold" IS "Climate Change!"

If, by chance, you live in a region of the United States that hasn't warmed over the last 100 years (or - GASP - one that has actually COOLED!) you can't use "Global Warming" as leverage.  However, you CAN use "Climate Change."

See how that works?  It's all about the marketing, brainwashing, and power grab!

  4. I believe some global warming is occuring, but to the extent the media, Al Gore, and the European Union would have you believe, is very much over-hyped.  And to say that it's man-made is even more outrageous.  I've read plenty of articles, heard a lot of commentary (from both sides), looked at studies done by credible sources, and have formed the decision that there is just too much evidence against the argument of man-made global warming.  The problem is I believe the whole thing is snowballing.  Originally a few overzealous people of power and influence came to this conclusion and it has just escalated to global proportions.  Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon without enough information.  A lot of people will believe it because it's a popular topic right now and it's actually kind of fashionable to be "green".  I'm not saying that everyone who believes it is stupid, but I think they're misinformed.  There is no conclusive evidence or consensus on the subject.  And what really gets me is those who are jumping on this are trying to force it upon me in the name of a future that may be in question.  If people choose to live that way, that's totally fine with me.  People should be free to do what they want and how they want to do it.  So if you want to live green and save the environment, I'm all for it.  But please don't force it upon me.

  5. As a geologist, I understand that climate change is normal.  It is offensive to suggest that because it changes it is necessarily due to humans.  The ignorance of that type of thinking is astonishing to me.  I don't need to ask those that "believe" in global warming, why.   I know why.  They believe because they believe.  They want to believe.  Don't let facts stand in your way.  You are saving the earth.  We are not overpopulated.  The world can sustain many more humans than we have today.  There may be more people than you like.  You may feel crowded.  You may wish you had more space but I don't think that is a very good definition for overpopulation.  I am sick today and particularly grouchy I think.

  6. The earth says, I'm hot, I'm cold, just deal with it.  I'm 9 BILLION years old and you are just a fly speck of my history.

  7. global warming will open up the northwest passage.

  8. Because this planet has seen many many climate changes, (warming and cooling) before there were enough humans to make an impact.

Because all the principals of climate change are not fully understood. 2000-3000 years ago northern europe was much warmer than it is now, in fact grapes were grown in northern area of Great Britain, so there is plenty of evidence to support global cooling instead of warming.

I agree the world has many problems, one the biggest being overpopulation, but I am very suspicious of 'Global Warming'

In addition, it seams to be the Battle Cry of many liberal politicians these days, and my view is that, politically, it is a means to transfer wealth from the middle class of industrialized nations to a new 'global world order' that is a politically vision (read socialist fantasy) of liberal democrats.

  9. First, most people believe in climate change, they simply do not buy the hypothesis that human activities have significantly altered the normal climatic cycles.

Clearly there are a number of environmental problems, but over population is not one of them.  Most of the problems are regional in nature, and are primarily concentrated in the under developed/developing areas of the world.
