Question:

A question for pro-choice people "why so mean"?

recently i began searching abortion sites to gain knowledge about abortion from the people who actually have had them. I visited sites of women who felt guilty and those who did not but no matter where I went I found that 90% of pro-choicers view pro-lifers as the enemy. Why is there such hostility?

  1. Probably an over-generalisation from that small percentage of pro-lifers who are extremely aggressive, outspoken and insulting in their views (i.e. shouting aggressively outside abortion clinics at girls going for a consultation). Which does not endear them to anyone. Also, many of the ones I've seen/heard debating are very dogmatic and often attempt to use emotional manipulation, which can actually have the effect of making people dislike them.

It's true that it's unfair they all get tarred with the same brush, though. It would be nice if people could debate without hostility and personal attacks (from either side).

  2. Pro-lifers see abortion as murder, and why wouldn't you be hostile towards murderers?

  3. The hostility comes from many pro life advocates wanting to ban the rights of woman to have abortions.  Pro choice people are obviously very much against this and therefore against the case many pro lifers present.

  4. The pro-life movement is not just about eliminating abortion.

The movement is seeking to systematically eliminate the reproductive control women have established for themselves by limiting access to and distributing misinformation about various forms of contraception.

The project their personal morality onto others and seek to make their belief system the law of the land.  Their lack of tolerance and respect for differing belief systems is    a legitimate reason to consider them - to use your words -  "the enemy."

Master B:  Your knee jerking caused you to miss my point.

The pro life agenda encompasses far more than the legal status of abortion.  Does the word McCarthyism mean anything to you?

  5. they are hostile because pro-life and religious people constantly accuse them of being baby killers.  it's ironic that the same pro-life and religious people support any wars Bush gets into based on lies, even though lives of millions of Iraqi babies have been shattered.

a fetus is not a baby.  a baby's is separable from the womb. a fetus less than 7 months would not survive outside of the womb or a machine. less than 5.5 months, no machine could keep it alive.

  6. The killing of potential life*.

    *The fetus could be miscarried.

  7. It depends on why the person claims to be pro-life. If that person truly is opposed to abortion because he or she thinks it's murder, then I have no problem with it. However, the problem occurs when people think that forcing women to have children they don't want is a way to punish them for having s*x, then it bothers me. These people usually are also opposed to contraceptive use and having s*x without any intention of reproducing.

  8. pro lifers have killed pro choicers.  for someone who gives a woman the choice, it is a very dangerous job. often those people are guards and police to help them.

  9. i heard this quited somewhere : whether pro choice or pro life we can all agree that there should generally be fewer abortions.

i think we should stop focusing on abortion itself and topics around it and focus more on the reasons they happen.

  10. I like making babies but not when they come out.

  11. what did u expect from people who kill babies?

  12. Jennifer finds it easy to say "leave people be"; but would you argue that when those people are the unborn children being systematically slaughtered in the womb? What about leaving them be?

Abortionists hate those who support life because we thereby oppose their socialistic doctrine of genocide and gendercide; and in doing so, we slow and even prevent the social acceptance of their mass-murder. By supporting the life and humanity of the fetus we instill in them the unjustifiable guilt they work so hard to rectify in their own mind.

By standing up to the bully and the menace, we begin to deteriorate the ignorance by which the doctrines of abortion thrive.

  13. There is a Biblical admonition to NOT demand conformity to GOD'S law from non-believers.

    Couple that with the following.....

A woman gets off the bus and walks into a clinic and she is there for an hour (or somekinda time, who's job is it to keep track?)

and then she leaves and gets on the bus and is gone. WHAT JUST HAPPENED? and is it anybody's business to pry into the Doctor/Patent relationship?

Very simple, people are going to do what they do, with or without the LAW, GOD'S LAW or whatever.  in order to keep the peace in society we have to have laws and certain means of enforcing said laws but the overall effect has to be that the individual citizen is not overly intruded upon.... Can U dig it?

(see the 4th amendment of the CONSTITUTION)

  14. "Pro-choice" means "I am more qualified to make your decisions than you"  Pretty pathetic, really.  Most of these morons can't make intelligent decisions for themselves and have nothing better to do than than stick their noses into other peoples' personal business because their own pathetic existence gives them absolutely no satisfaction.

  15. They're hostile because pro-lifers are preaching and telling them what to do. Now one likes that. The benefit of pro-choice is at least it leaves choice, it doesn't want to make anyone forced to do anything they do not wish. Leaving people be is the best, fairest policy.

  16. I'm going to take the high road on this and not take sides.  Basically, it comes down to what is more important to a person, "the fetus or the pregnant woman".  Pro Choicers are on the side of the pregant woman, Pro Lifers are on the side of the fetus.

  17. I think the reason that you found mostly qomen who regretted it was that they would be the only ones that would feel the need to express their guilt and warn others. A lot of people don't feel guilty, so they wouldn't really be bothered to go on about it on the interenet.

I am pro choice and I respect other peoples views, that not everyone agrees withit. But I have seen A LOT of pro life people who just call pro choice people evil, murderes etc and there have been cases where they will wait outside clinic to harass or even beat up people going in for an abortion (yeah that makes sense!).

When I was worried I may be pregnant once I looked at abortion sites just out of interest to see the procedure etc, be prepared just in case and I found so many sites run by pro life people saying about how evil it is and stating false facts about the procedures.

  18. They don't mean to be that way, Its just that they are so much smarter than you are and know what is right for your life, they get impatient when you can't see it their way.

So you see, It's really not their fault, Its yours,  for not understanding  that they know what is best for you. You make them that way.

You should forget about any independent thought or the crazy idea of exercising free will, and submit to their wisdom or God will be all pissed at you. And when God gets pissed, we all suffer.

  19. Much of the abortation "debate" hasn't been a debate, its an emotional issue for many.

I am won't say my leaning, towards that issue, but, i believe the above is the closest you'll ever get to the truth.

  20. Well calling someone a murderer or w***e isn't exactly a friendly way to open the lines of communication

  21. Thats like a n**i complaining their world view is not accepted and met with irritation rather than serious debate. To anti choicers abortion is murder (to some pro choicers too but they are fine with it).

  22. Well, essentially, aside from the fee, pro-lifers are all that stand in the pro-choicers way of getting abortions. That's bound to create some animosity.

  23. They believe (mistakenly) that choice is the ultimate good and when others don't agree they think we're trying to oppress them lol.

They don't seem to understand that when your choice infringes on others then it's not really quite as good...

All you have to ask is would they advocate someone choosing to take amphetamines or similar drugs. They say no because it's illegal and pro-choice (abortion) is legal. That's a self-validating argument and completely arbitrary since it's legal because you think the right to choose abortion should be in the first place but not take drugs. Funny that

If there's a good empirical reason why one should be legal and other illegal then you can transcend that, but there isn't. It's just opinion

@ cloggjam: your argument does not reach any absolute conclusion. So what if they are effectively symbiotic with the mother? We are with this planet, does that mean we can't be considered actual life since we don't naturally survive outside of earth?

and @ elf: well isn't it lucky that you're in the hotseat at the moment. So because you have the law, that makes your belief system right and pro-lifers wrong by definition. Gotta love self-validation

Ah I see, now I understand the term =D apologies. Just for the record I do respect alot of pro-choice views and many pro-life ones. So I do accept that there's alot of conflict between the two as a result of retentiveness more than anything
