A question for some real Mechanics. Need your opinion!!?

Ok. So all day yesterday my car was running fine but at 1am yesterday the car would not turn back on when it was turned off to go into 7-11. After many tries the car still has not started and is being left at a mechanics for fixing but I wanted to know if anyone ever experienced. My car has done this once or twice but normally starts right back up. Now when you turn the key the car sounds like its starting (RPMS go up lights on etc.) but then it turns off. Any help would be greatly appreciated so i know what i'm in for. Thanks again!

FYI: the car is a 2005 Mazada 3i..

sounds like a bad  coil.Coils heat up and when they are "going out" they do just what you have described (they will not transmit the charge to the sparkplugs to start the motor intil they are all the way cooled off again or it will start but not stay running.You also might have unwittngly filled up with gasohol or 90-10 at your local gas station (many places that sell cheap gas are selling gas which has a certain percentage of ethanol) this doesnt do well in some cars and the symptoms are the same as what you have mentioned
