I'm doing a survey and I wanted to ask as a constructivist, what is your approach to teaching? How does inquiry-based learning differ from the traditional model, with the teacher as the source of all instruction?

  1. techteac Still smoking. Give it up, especially in public.

  2. the constructivist model looks at the information as a resource for the student to create their own meaning and understanding of the material as related to their perspective or "world view" as opposed to a teacher telling a student "this is what this meant and why it was important"...the teacher guides the students to an individual understanding of the materials..

  3. In the inquiry-based classroom, the teacher provides a LOT of hands-on projects and assignments. The students work on their own, with the teacher as an assistant, to discover answers and solutions to their work.  It is all based on "discovery".  It is an excellent form of teaching - if the teacher is good at providing the right environment for that kind of learning - and if the students are well disciplined.
