  1. Manufacturers of these items create both cologne and aftershave for good reason. It can be difficult to see what the difference is when a certain fragrance is offered in both forms. They smell the same but there are qualities in each item that make it unique.

Aftershave for men is designed to condition the skin. The scent may be the same as the cologne but it is significantly milder than its counterpart. If you use cologne as a type of face conditioner after shaving you will overwhelm yourself with fragrance. Ironically, you won't be able to smell the abundant scent.

Another thing to remember is that you want to layer the fragrance. Using aftershave for men is a good way to condition your skin, close pores and add a little scent to your skin. However, cologne will always be stronger and last longer. Add just a dab here and there and you have created a well balanced layer of masculine fragrance that won't be overpowering.

  2. After shave is a manly term for the moisturizer many men put on their faces after shaving.

Cologne is a manly word for perfume.

  3. Thats easy. Aftersave is used...you guessed it, after you shave.  Not only does it usually smell good, it is suppose to prevent hair bumps and ingrown hairs.  Cologne is just to smell good and should not be used on your neck or face after shaving.

  4. They both make me vomit.

  5. Marketing.

"After-shave" sounds manly. Cologne sounds feminine.

Remember: it's not "moisturizer," it's "after shave balm." It's not "exfoliant," it's "scrub."

The men's skincare and haircare industry is a multi-billion dollar entity, but marketers have to be careful with their terminology.

  6. Nope....my husband doesn't wear either one. Makes him sneeze and wheeze.

  7. they both stink

  8. YOWCH.

You win. I've been trying to come up with the dumbest question for a couple weeks, but you got me. I'm bowing and sweeping a mud puddle with a big plumed hat. I'm kissing your cheap Korean knockoff sneakers.

    awed

    I remain.

Somebody. Can't figure it out from day to day anymore.

  9. easy

Cologne is for smelling good alone

after shave is suppose help prevent razor bumbs from coming up....but it often smells good to.

  10. No, they're different. Aftershave is a lotion you put on the face to help shaving wounds and prevent infection.

Cologne is basically perfume for men. I actually shudder at the thought of guys spritzing that on themselves, thinking it will attract women. No.
