Imagine you are on a sinking boat. You have your friend and your parent (mom or dad) with you on the boat. But they are drowning and you know how to swim. You are on a life boat but only 2 people is the maximum capacity of that boat. You calculated that you can save your friend (which is near the life boat) by 70% and your parent (which is distal to the life boat) by 30%.

Who will you save, your FRIEND or your PARENT?

With explanation pls. ^^

  1. Humans tend to go for the most emotionally attached person.  For most people that would be a parent.  Unless outside training has prepared you to make the calculations you have mentioned, no one will do that in a traumatic event.

  2. I'd put both of them in the life boat & then for myself, I would hang onto the outside of the lifeboat ~ either hang onto a rope that came with the lifeboat, or a belt/scarf/item of clothing that somebody was wearing attached to the lifeboat.

To combat the 1 person being stuck in the water for possibly days, we could take turns in who spent time in the water & who spent time in the lifeboat, so everyone would have time in & out of the water.

  3. i would save them both--I'd get the friend on the life boat, as s/he is closest, then paddle out to my parent.  In this scenario you said that I can swim.  If I can swim, then I can d**n sure hang on to the life boat after getting my friend AND my parent inside.  From that point until rescue, we just alternate out one person every so often so that there are only 2 of us in the boat at one time.

  4. id save both, get them both in the boat and i can swim. so problem solved.

  5. I guess my parent because they "gave" life to me so I sort of owe them.

  6. I would try to save my parent. Perhaps not very logical but few people would make a logical decision at that point.
