A question for the younger croud.?

I'm 44 years old and have a fifteen year old son.

I reasently asked him what an EMO ment and dident quite beleve the answer he gave me.

So I'll trust you guys.

I'm curious as to know what the answer was that your son gave you. =)

I'm pretty sure its short for Emotional.  Its also a term for a type of music.  Such as My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy, etc....

"EMO" describes people who are over emotional about everything, and are generally in a bad mood or 'sorry for myself' mood. they mostly wear dark clothes and have a suiting sense of humor and interests.

emo is a stereotype

for kids who look rather.... "gothic"

they usually wear all black

wear random things like, saftey pins, dog collars, metal studs.

some have piercings

dyed hair

choppy hair

or hair in their faces, covering their eyes.

they wear makeup, even guys

and are known for being  emotional, hence the name "emo"

some cut themselves, but lets not get into that.

they try to estrange themselves from other people, unless it with other "emos"

i really do hate these stereotypes.

Emo means you like to cry a lot and cut your wrists. You like to steep in your depression and enjoy it. You make sure everybody else knows you are perpetually sad. You talk about how your middle-class suburban life sucks, and how you just want it all to be over.

Your friends and you have pity parties and whine about how nobody understands you. You wear the same clothing, sport the same hairstyles, and listen to the same music. You brag about who has more sorrow and depression, and whose life sucks the most.

Emo boys compete for girls by trying to convince them they are the most hardcore. Emo girls are attracted to effeminate men. Emo girls enshrine g*y and bisexual men as the pinnacle of sexual perfection, and some straight emo boys will make out with each other just to get girls' attention. Emo boys tend to be attracted to fat (or anorexic), perpetually crying girls with scars on their wrists.
