If a ball is hit to the seond base man he tags the runner with his mitt while the ball is in his hand and he throws it to first then the runner that was running to second goes back to first a slides in safe what is the ruling. I had this happen to me yesterday in a lttle league game. I called the guy that was suppossed to go to second safe on first and the other guy out and both teams said it was the wrong call.

  1. I don't know but here is a site covering baseball rules.

  2. it was. the guy who was tagged is safe because the ball must be in the mit or the fielder must tag the runner with the ball. that was a blown call.

  3. well I had to read that a couple times to get it, but from what I'm getting he tagged the runner with his glove with no ball in it, then got the force out on the batter but the runner went back to first after the play, in that case, the runner going to second is safe if he was not tagged by the 1st baseman because the ball was in the guys hand not his glove he was not out on the tag and the batter is out on the force play at first, so yes, you were right in your call if I got that right

  4. i would say that the runner running to second would still be safe because he was not tagged with the ball. however he should still be called out only if they tagged the 2nd base before the runner running to first was out. otherwise, the runner going to second has a chance of going back to first as long as no one is at that base. You made the right call!!

  5. It was the correct call. The runner from first was not out when he was tagged, because the fielder didn't tag him with the hand holding the ball. And after the batter-runner was retired at first, the runner originally on first was no longer forced to advance to second. He was able to legally retreat to first.

  6. the guy that hit the ball was safe because the ball was in the hand not glove and if the ythrew the ball to 2nd or tagged the runner that slid back into first he would have been out and the hitter would be safe

  7. there is a rule which is hard to undersand but  its called a tag

people will disagree with me but you made the right call.

the tag dosent say he has to tag the runner with the ball it say he has it.

    under 2.00 defention

"A TAG is the action of a fielder in touching a base with his body while holding the

ball securely and firmly in his hand or glove; or touching a runner with the ball, or with his

hand or glove holding the ball, while holding the ball securely and firmly in his hand or

    glove."

as it says hand or glove. as long as he has the ball in his hand or glove he can be out if he dosnet reach in time.

As for this happeing alot.  It more of risky injury i rahter pretend to say he has to tag the runner with glove in ball. or hand with ball touching runner.

if he dosent have the ball and tags the runner. the runner is aoutmically safe.

  8. the runner that was running to second was safe because u have to tag them with the BALL to get them out
