Decided to start growing cauliflowers. Up they grew, nice and strong. Then, when the cauli grew in the centre they didn't stay compact, instead they have spread out sideways and opened up completely into branches. Don't even look like cauliflowers now. What happened?

  1. I have never grown cauliflower, but I have saw the same problem at farmers markets, I think it has something to due with the amount of water the plant received.  It will still taste good!!

  2. I don't know where you are but it sounds like you started your Cauliflowers too late and the hot/warmer weather got them.  Cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts all should have cool weather.  As soon as weather begins to warm they start to go to seed.  I haven't seen yours but sounds like that's what happened.

  3. hi . Could be the wrong variety , at the wrong time of year .

The different varieties are 'season specific ' , ie , each type should be planted at the correct time of year .

  4. They've bolted and are going to seed. Not a lot you can do about it. Caulis are not an easy crop to grow, in fact one fo the hardest. The slightest bit of distress, from lack of watering to over hot weather, and they bolt.

  5. Caulis aren't easy. I think probably not a regular supply of water, so they grew in spurts rather than gradually

  6. You waited too long to harvest and its setting seed.........

  7. you should have harvested them earlier.cut them now and they will still be ok to eat.
