Question:

A question involving two female hamsters?

I really like two hamsters at the petstore, they're both female, and they're the last two of their litter and they've been there together for a while. I already have two hamsters in separate cages in my room, and I only have enough room for one more big cage, and i like them both. Would I be able to put them both in there? I think they've already reached adult hood, and they're both syrians. I know they say it's bad but they've already been living together for the longest time, about 2 months.

  1. NO

Please don't buy both if you cannot buy another cage to house them separately. I can see that you have mentioned they are syrian hamsters. Syrian Hamsters can reach adulthood anytime between 2 months to 5 months and once they become adults, they are definitely going to fight since Syrians being syrians, they would be solitary and there are no exceptions to the rule. Their fights are nocturnal so you cannot even be around all the time to supervise them and check if they are gonna fight or not.You might just wake up one fine morning to see one of them dead in the cage!

Best is get one syrian hamster for one cage, but if you can afford two separate cages, go ahead and buy both, they are cute pets and you would enjoy every moment with your four hamsters.

  2. i have 2 female hamsters they were alright for few days then they started fighting. i think 1 is in season and the other 1 fights with it. i also have a male in the same house i think they are fighting over him

i used to have 2 females together and they were absolutely fine. they also were form the same litter but they were dwarf hamsters

  3. From what you've told me it should be fine, because they already live together and they are female. This is assuming (from what I read) they will both share their own cage away from the other two you already own. So, though still not guaranteeing that it will be 100% safe, I think it'd be ok. BUT when you go buy them, individually examine and hold them, if one looks roughed up and like it's been attacked and if you watch them interact and one acts more agressive DON'T BUY THEM.

  4. What are the sexes of the other 2 hamsters? If they're all girls it should be okay. If one is a male and the other is female, that should be okay too, one male and 3 females. If they are both male, you're going to have problems when they become old enough to mate. The two males will fight for the right to mate with the two females.

  5. keep all of them separate unless they have lived together their whole lives, because hamsters are territoriall and will fight to the death over space to live.
