When someone asks you out, and you say "I want to get to know you better first.", is that just your polite way of saying no?

It's happened to me before and afterwards I was basically being treated as though I didn't exist, hence the question. Other guys views here are welcome too.

  1. no. it probably just means that she wants to make sure your not a total jerk whose going to just "love her and leave her"

  2. she probably didn't know you well and didn't want to date someone bhe didn't know that would be stupid to ask someone out and that was your first time talking to her

  3. Please do not listen to everyone else. This is a sure fire no. She is not interested. Thats the bottom line.

  4. i would think so because dating is a way to get to know each other...

  5. I agree with the other answer. You can't really get to know each other 'real good' just talking all the time. Going out with each other the person(s) can make the relationship a lot more significant or personal, depending on each others understanding of friendship. She probably is satisfied just talking to you for now.

  6. Aww well that's rude (being treated like you didn't exist)

I'd say that if I said that, i'd mean it

but some girls... depending on their rudeness levels

would use that as a polite way to say no.

  7. uhm, no

    no, i don't think so

    it just saves time
