I've had my wilson sensation 16g strings at 55lbs in my k-six-two for 4 months already, and been playing 4 days a week, 2 hours a session. I dont know about you, but 128 hours seems like quite a bit for one string job. Would they have already been dead by now? I've gotten tennis elbow ever since 2 weeks ago, dont know if it might be a string-related issue.

  1. i think 55 lbs tension for k-six-two is not too tight. it should be comfortable enough. seems like your problem is not the string. why don;t you see a doctor and cure the elbow first, then you can review your strokes with some local pros (other than your coach so you can get second opinion).

  2. Well I agree with the first answerer, nomoboys, as to when you should restring but as for the tennis elbow, it normally appears if you are using improper strokes or technique OR if your tension is too high OR your string is too harsh.

Since tension goes down over time and the string has been in your frame for 4 months already I would venture a guess that it's not your tension but rather your form or technique OR the string itself.

Since Wilson Sensation string is a good soft string and not a harsh string like a Kevlar or a hard poly or a Luxilon BB ALU Rough that isn't your problem either. Even strung lower those strings can kill your elbow and shoulder. I learnt that first hand. Switch to Natural Gut immediately.

If it's not your string but rather your strokes or technique then take a one hour lesson with a club Pro to see if he can improve your strokes and alleviate or eliminate the tennis elbow. If it gets worse you should R.I.C.E. or rest, ice, compression, elevation.

Take time off, ice your elbow where it hurts, wrap a compression band around it, and elevate so that the blood isn't pumping through it. You may need to get some form of physio too. Then you may want to try a Head Liquidmetal 4, or a ProKennex Kinetic 7G or 5G, or a Yonex MP3i. All 4 are frames for sufferers of tennis elbow or shoulder problems.

  3. The old addage was always you should restring your racket as many times per year as you play per week.

If you play four times a week, that means you should probably get restrung every three months.

However, it depends on how hard you hit the ball and how serious you are about playing.

If you play competitively and seriously, you might want to consider getting it strung.  If you play for fun with your friends and don't hit a heavy ball, you can probably wait a couple more months and then do it.
