Explain such a controversy about Holyfields Steroid taking and the fact he signed his name as Evan Field for a deal of steroids,is there not enough evidence to call into question his victories over Tyson and others if he's cheated?

  1. Ring Talks' web site had a blind item a couple of years ago stating that Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Razor Ruddock and Tommy Morrison were using the 'roids.

Take it for what you will, but it does fill in a few of the gaps in those careers.

  2. Cheating is cheating, but the fact is steriods don't give a fighter the same advantages they give athletes in other sports - its just a misconception.

I remember Emanuel Steward commenting about Fernando Vargas during his fight with De la Hoya, after which he infamously tested positive for steriods.  Steward said, accurately that getting ripped, big arms, etc. doesn't help in the ring, it actually hurts the fighter as a fight goes on because the muscle and size are unnatural and takes a physical toll..i.e Vargas unable to keep his hands up from about the 9th on.

With Holyfield I'm not sure, steriods enable an athlete to recover quicker, from injuries and just in general from the strain of training...I don't think Holyfield used them to get huge muscles, etc., he was always pretty well built.  But, he was also famous, legendary even, for his training regiment, his ability to train hard year round to keep himself ahead of bigger guys by being able to outwork them.....steriods didn't give Holyfield his discipline to stick to the game plan that beat Tyson, they didn't give him his chin, but you could make the argument that they may have given him the ability to keep the pace that broke Tyson down in the late rounds....and you hate to think of all the fights where Holyfields tireless pace and ability to recover gave him his edge.

  3. I always worried about Holyfield taking steroids. He just bulked up too big and quick. Then he had those health problems with his heart and all. It sure doesn't look good, and he is one of my favorite fighters. h**l, Tyson could have been taking them too- I've heard rumors, and that might explain why he acts so d**n aggressive and crazy.
