A question regarding a quote. Mark Twain perhaps?

I'll make every effort to make this unserstandable, and without question. I have to paraphrase, and it isn't a school assignment, but relevent to me, in many ways.

"When I was young (a # perhaps?) I thought my father was the most ignorant man I knew. When older (again a # year perhaps?) I found that he was catching up to me."

Is this the quote?:

I think it equates to he was so much older then, and younger than that now ;)

And, of course, don't all teenagers and young adults know EVERYTHING?...until they hit 40, and realize that they knew nothing at all.

And now that I'm (a #) I find my dad was right about 'most' things. But some of us continue to supersede our elders by light years.

Any help?
