A question to people who believe in an all-powerful-God?

If God is all powerful and he wishes to make a burrito so big he can't eat (burrito paradox), the whole idea of him not been able to eat it means he is not all powerful but if he eats it, it means he is not all powerful either...so how would a believer of the whole idealistic concept of "all-powerful God" explain this?

  1. *drink*

  2. Look, if you want to point out the many false assumptions and irrationalities in Christianity and pretty much every other religion, you need to do it intelligently and rationally. Fighting dumb with dumb just isn't going to cut it. You either get ignored or ridiculed. Should I give you lessons on how to properly do it? First, you have to really understand the other view, and I do not think you do.

Edit: I went to and read some from Jonny's profile. Have fun patting each other on the back and congratulating each other on how smart you are. I am wasting my time here it would seem. Bye for now. Maybe I will catch you in a better question. I hope so. I really hope so.

  3. God is a spirit. He doesn't eat. If He did, He wouldn't eat burritos.

  4. first of all, God doesn't "wish" to do anything, He just does.

secondly, i can't picture God wanting to make a burrito so big that even He couldn't eat it.  gluttony is one of the deadly sins, right?  so, that would be gluttonous, and not something that God would do.

but your burrito paradox is very clever and thought out well, just not practical to God's followers.

  5. there is no such thing for him as a "burrito so big he can't eat." he CAN do everything. he could make a big burrito, and CAN it eat. BUT if it was made to be a "big burrito so big HE CAN'T EAT," he wouldn't eat it all, though He could. did you get the idea? there are many mysteries about God that we have no right to question. i hope you understand that.

  6. Oops, no logic on R&S, please...check for community guidelines!

  7. Ahaha good question mate

  8. god is able to do only things that are logical possible

  9. God is for delusional individuals, who turn to something that isn't real.

That's why we take the pi** out of this so-called "GOD".

  10. Darling you think WAY too much. Go do a nice lady.

  11. Everyone knows God doesn't like burritos, He would never eat one no matter what size.

  12. 'Powerful' doesnt mean 'hungry'.

  13. God does not like burritos so the question is mute.

  14. Now why would He want to do that?

  15. God is all powerful. Thats it. You dont need a paradox to explaim it.

  16. This sort of question is asked by a person who obviously doesn't understand Christian Doctrine. When theologians claim God is all powerful, they are not saying that God can do everything including actualizing a contradiction. They are saying that God can actualize all possibilities.... and contradictions are not possible. God cannot make a square circle. So what? That is not a limitation on God. It simply shows the limitations inherent in both circles and squares.

We are told that God cannot lie. But this too is no limitation on God. To lie is to contradict ones self. God is the one being that never contradicts himself. We often contradict ourselves (lie).

EDIT: The questioner adds that he did not mention Christianity as such. So what? Your question is asked to those who believe in an all powerful God. And Christian belief holds to such a view of God. And being a Christian, I was answering the question from that perspective. Instead of dealing with my answer, you chose to absolve yourself by pointing out that you didn't use the word "Christian"...as if this somehow negates the fact that you were asking a question about a doctrine held by Christians (among others). But your addition does nothing to negate my answer.

  17. the flaw in your logic is in your first word IF because it is flawed everything past it in your statement is also flawed because you built your whole concept on a flaw if u build a foundation for a house meade only of stones, no mortar no concrete, and place on it a $10 mil. house when the foundation falls, which it will, u no longer have a house just a pile of rubble so it is with your statement

  18. Congratulations, you just made God look stupid and you will go to h**l for that, sorry.. :) I dont know where you learned about God but you had got him totally wrong..

  19. There are lots of amusing paradoxes like that. If he can't lift it, then he ain't an almighty, invincible being, but if he can't make one like that, then he isn't able to do EVERYTHING.

The solution: by "all powerful," most theists mean that God can do anything that isn't contradictory. God can make it rain and he can make it not rain, but he can't make it be both raining and not raining at the same time (in the same place). He's still all powerful in any useful sense of the term.

God can't contradict Himself, or He would be a liar. He can't do something that would be inconsistent with His own principles and character.

  20. ew dont talk about food i am stuffed!!

  21. Thats pretty good, I bet you get non answers! And believers will insult you! all the best!

Somone says in the answers below that this paradox is 'not practical to gods followers' ...of course its not!! anything that puts god in a bad light (or makes them think '**** my beliefs may be flawed') is gonna be deamed impractical lol

  22. He could hide the Very big burrito in the even bigger tea pot

  23. God can do what he wants, when he wents. plus, that's a stupid paradox. God can have his burrito, AND eat it too.

  24. I think the idea is that you're not asking him to do something that's actually possible. It's a paradox, cannot be done. That doesn't mean he's not all-powerful, just that he can't do what is logically impossible.

Note: I don't believe in all-powerful deities. The boulder paradox is fun, but ultimately not all that helpful.

  25. All powerful or almighty refers to the fact that God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. There is no power that did not have it's origin in God. Therefore it is impossible for anything in all of creation to not be subject to God. If something was "too big" for God to handle then He wouldn't be all powerful.

Having "all power" does not mean being able to make something with "more" power than "all" power because that is a contradiction in terms.
