A questions about basements?

Is it possible to add a basement to a house and how much would it cost and how long would it take?

depends where is yours house located, in ILLINOIS  for example  if your first floor of the house is 1000 square feet time $100 to $165 per squaree feet

it depends on where the house is and what is under it.  In some areas like Fla. houses don't have basements because the water table is too high.  Other places do not allow basements because of flooding.  If the house is on top of rock, a basement would be tough to manage.

The walls of a basement also act as the foundation for the house. Duplicating this with an existing house is complicated and costly. You'd be far better off selling the house and buying one with a basement than to pay for what you are proposing.
