  1. modern dance and jazz are really different..

jazz is more of a fun upbeat relaxed type of dance and modern is really about feeling the music and making distinc shapes with your body and rolls and really stretching yourself out... i have always been told by teachers that modern is kind of like a mixture of jazz and ballet

  2. no, modern and jazz are NOT the same thing. they are way different. i dont know how to explain it but modern is the exact opposite of ballet. i know i wasnt much help....

  3. i think they are the same thing... pretty sure,      my dance group is jazz/modern so.... yeh

  4. well morden is like dances from the old school. and jazz is like kinda new school mixed up with old skool

    well i hope i helped u =D

  5. Modern is more about making shapes and staying low to the floor, while jazz is more of a contemporary ballet type thing. Sorry if you don't get what I mean.

  6. i think jazz is more technical and more hyper active if you know what i mean. ive done both and i prefer jazz, but modern is fun too because i find there's a lot of freestyling in it. they are both really fun though.

  7. i did modern  at my old stage school and now do jazz. Its basically the same but from experiance i would say that jazz is slightly more technical but it might just be that the standard of teaching at my current dance school is better that my previous one.

Also, i think it depends on the exam board. ISTD call it jazz and NATD call it modern, hope this helped.

  8. With ISTD modern is for beginners up to grade 3 (approx. 12-15yrs) and jazz is grade 4 upwards. It is a more mature form of movement with more hips and shoulders etc. Slightly funkier music as well. But they are both under the heading of Modern Theatre.
