A quick look at some of the golf courses in Ireland
People normally do not come to Ireland for golf only. There are numerous reasons for them to visit this country. They might be here for vacations. For some, business trips are a reason, or they might be interested in history.
However, apart from that, there are some great golf courses in Ireland where one can have a quick round.
United Kingdom has been mainly known for its links golf courses. The Open Championship is also played on a links course but there are other kinds of courses as well, where one can enjoy a brief visit.
Once in Ireland, one may find numerous opportunities to play golf and a new facility has been provided to the visitors - they can register online for tee off times instead of buying a golf packager.
Let us now take a look at some of the great golf courses one can visit during their stay in Ireland.
Royal Dublin Golf Club
Royal Dublin Golf Club may not be as beautiful or scenic as some of the other golf courses in Dublin. However, its short distance from the city centre means that it is very easily accessible via public transport and it is ideal for those who do not have
their own car.
The golf course is pretty historical, as it was built in the 1800’s but six years ago, it was renovated, keeping in mind the new trends of golf.
Portmarnock Golf Club
This golf course is a treat. It is a few miles away from the city centre but it has what it takes to be a world class course. It is counted among one of the top 100 courses of the world.
The golf course has some extremely beautiful views, especially the walk along the shore. This course has hosted the Irish Open thirteen times.
The Island Golf Club
It is another scenic links golf course, established in the 1890’s. It is said that even Darren Clarke found it tough going here.
The front nine is fairly easy but the back nine is pretty tough and extremely scenic as well. At the green of par-5 fifteenth hole there is a magnificent view of the dunes behind.
The K Club
If you do not like links golf course, then this is your place to be. Yes ladies and gentleman The K club is not a links course, strange isn’t it? The Palmer course hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup and the water hazards and bunkers can rip you apart.
