A quick look at the highlights of the 2012 PGA Tour season – Part 1
Finally, the 2012 US PGA Tour season is coming to its end. There are only a few tournaments left that are on the PGA Tour Fall Series roster.
The Ryder Cup at the Medinah Country Club can be regarded as the last serious competition held on the US soil this year.
Most of the PGA Tour players are now planning to take some rest, prior to the regular start of the next season in Hawaii, where the Tournament of Champions will be held in January, 2013.
Overall, the year was full of excitement. The world of golf witnessed an astonishing talent come together from Northern Ireland and the resurgence of the great Tiger Woods.
Once again, we saw four different major golf championship winners and Brandt Snedeker taking home the FedEx Cup trophy quite surprisingly.
For the upcoming PGA Tour season, all the major championships organisers will be changing their venue courses, except the Masters Tournament, which will remain with its old friend, the Augusta National.
As we move forward to witness a completely unique experience next year, there are few things that can be filed away.
At the Ryder Cup earlier this month, Luke Donald did something he was not expected to do because of his form this season.
Entering the final stage of the biennial event, the European team was trailing by four points – the scores were 10 – 6 in favour of the United States team.
Luke Donald entered the field and earned the first point for his team by defeating Bubba Watson in the Sunday’s singles match. The victory spearheaded the Europeans biggest comeback in the history of the event, to win the title.
In the meantime, the former world number one failed to impress his fans in all the four major championships.
However, if the Englishman has some confidence in his game, he certainly can do wonders next year, especially when the Open Championship will be held at the Merion and Muirfield in 2013.
He can take some inspiration from Brandt Snedeker, who showed that self-confidence can play an important role in achieving career goals.
He won the FedEx Cup through a victory in the Tour Championship last month, when all the eyes were on Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
Snedeker is now regarded as the best putter of the ball on the PGA Tour. Earlier this year, he also led the Open Championship after two rounds. Therefore, he certainly has the potential to stun his opponents at the first two major championships next season.
It is commonly known that pressure can make the players to do some funny things on the course. Jim Furyk can be used as a perfect example in this specific situation. The American received golden opportunities this year, to bag a couple of big titles in the
world of golf.
One might forget the final round disaster at the US Open this year that saw Furyk post a 74, which dragged him down from the first to the shared fourth spot on the leaderboard.
However, one can never forget what he did at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.
He was leading the tournament by one stroke, entering the final hole on Sunday. However, he made one of the biggest blunders of his career by carding a double bogey on the 72nd hole of the tournament.
The mistake cost him a victory in the end, as he moved from the top to the tied second position. One can simply say that he just threw the victory away.
While playing the 2012 Ryder Cup’s Sunday singles, he lost an important point against Sergio Garcia that could have restricted the Europeans to make the biggest comeback in the history of the Ryder Cup.
That marked the third shameful defeat of the year for one of the game’s best players.
