The acceleration is there if you need it. There will be times when a burst of power is the safest course of action.

Just because it's there doesn't mean that you have to use it all of the time. Just make sure that you've put the cellphone away when you step on the gas.

Minis are very light cars so they can accelerate quickly. They weren't designed to be a drag racer, that just happened when they tried to make a fuel efficient vehicle.

Well MINI is a BMW brand and BMW is a performance company.  That is why.  

MINIs' are meant to be fun to drive also.

The 0-60mph time is also done by manufactures to get the best possible time with optimal conditions.  You would have the rev the engine to redline then drop the clutch to get that 0-60mph time.

The MINI is also a modern car with side air bags and a good offset crash rating.  

You would be worse off in an accident in a early 90's family sedan than you would be in a new MINI.
