a ray of light traveling through air is incident upon a sheet of crown glass at an angle of 30 degree, what is the angle of refraction?

  1. You will need the index of refraction of the glass.  Then use Snell's law.


  2. The index of refraction in crown glass = 1.520

    Using snell's law

    n(1) sin(θ(1)) = n(2) sin(θ(2))

    1*sin(30°) = 1.520 sin(θ(2))

    sin(θ(2)) = 1.5 \ 1.520 = 0.3289474

    Using calculator

    θ(2) = 19° 12' 17.63''
