why is it called your thigh when your standing but called a lap when your sitting?

  3. that is  a very good question... here's my shot at answering:

    your thigh is a body part i.e flesh and bones.

    however, your lap is what your thighs become when you sit down and are able to rest something one them.

  6. Just because!!    English is a very funny language and there are lots of things that cannot be explained.  This is one of them.

  7. Even when u r standing, it is called a thigh or referred 2 as thighs if u r mentioning both.

    A lap is the cradle-like place where u can place a child. This is formed when u sit down & bring ur two thighs together.

    U can place a lot of things in ur lap for example a lap top, a plate of food, a book etc etc.
