A recap of Andy Murray’s performance in 2010
Born on 15 May 1987 in the city of Glasgow, Andy Murray is a professional tennis player from Scotland. Murray is currently ranked number four in the world by the Association of tennis professionals. He has so far reached two major finals in his career, at
the Australian Open and United States Open, defeating on both occasions at the hands of Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer.
As far as his 2010 performance is concerned, the world number four started the season by competing at the Australian Open Competition as his first event in 2010. The Scott comfortably got past his initial round opponents to set up a quarter final meeting
with Rafael Nadal. He was up at 6–3, 7–6 (2), 3–0 before Nadal withdrew from the match as a result of his injury. Murray, as a result made his way into the semi-final round where he surpassed Marin Cilic in straight sets. In the title battle, the 23-year-old
Andy, however, was lost by Roger Federer who captured his sixteen Grand Slam title of his career in Melbourne.
The British number one Murray next played at the BNP Paribas Open Men’s singles competition in Indian Wells, where he brushed aside Nicolas Almagro to reach the quarter final round. However, Murray was beaten in the final eight by his Swedish foe, Robin
Soderling in two sets. The final match score was 1–6, 6–7.
The Belgrade-born next took part in the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open, but had an early departure in a clash with Mardy Fish in his opening match in two sets. The final match score was 6–4, 6–4.
At the second major event of the season, the French Open, the right hander couldn’t surpass the round of sixteen, as he was outlasted by Tomas Berdych in straight sets. Murray made his way into the fourth round after getting the better Richard Gasquet as
well as Marcos Baghdatis. The Scott after losing gave full credit to his opponent for playing some great tennis in Roland Garros.
The 1.90 meters tall Murray at the grass court Grand Slam tournament this season successfully advanced into the semi-final round, where he was eventually overpowered by the current world number one and ultimate winner Rafael Nadal in three sets. The final
match score was 6–4, 7–6 (6), 6–4.
Beginning the United States hard court season, Murray first played at the 2010 Farmers Classic where he knocked down Tim Smyczek and Alejandro Falla in his opening round clashes. He then got past Feliciano Lopez in the final four and reached his first title
battle since the Aussie in 2010. The Scott, however, once again lost the final at the hands of his American foe, Sam Querrey in three sets. The final match score was 7–5, 6–7(2), 3–6. This was his first defeat to Sam in five career clashes and the first time
he had missed a set versus the American.
In Canada, Murray successfully defended his Toronto Cup on the very first occasion. He registered his name as the first contender since Agassi back in 1995 to defend the Rogers Cup. He defeated Roger Federer in straight sets in the title battle to end his
title drought dating since last year.
At the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, the 23-year-old Murray surpassed Lacko and Dustin Brown to reach the third round. The Scott faced Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round, who sent him packing in four sets.
Currently, Andy Murray is taking part in the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2010 and has successfully reached the quarter final rounds in China.
