Question:

A recipe calls for thawed and drained frozen broccoli but I only have fresh, what can I do?

besides buying frozen broccoli?

Should steaming it shortly work?

  1. blanch them for about 5 min then put in cold water and drain should be fine  


  2. I never buy frozen veggies and so whenever a recipe calls for frozen I steam my fresh veggies first then continue with the recipe. Fresh veggies are better for you and taste better too!!

  3. Can you give us more info about the recipe?  I would imagine it calls for thawed frozen because that is done in no time, whereas fresh takes some time to get tender, but more info would help.  I would think steaming and getting the broccoli tender certainly would sound like an acceptable sub.

  4. I would steam them so they are al-dente, not too soft. Then follow the recipe.

  5. Steam it for five minutes and then follow the recipe.

  7. as they said, steam them for about five minutes or even microwave them with a bit of water.
