  1. my heritage is portuguese and here is how my vuvua used to make it..

    3-4 lb chuck roast, poke holes with a fork, sprinkle adolph's tenderizer on it, let it sit about an hour

    in a roasting pan, put beef, a little red wine poured over the beef, garlic, potatoes, sliced onion, carrots, can of chopped tomatoes, bay leaves, one or two..

    cook in 350 oven with top on for about 45 minutes, take lid off, let cook for about another 1/2 hour. turn oven off, let stay in oven for a bit...

    i also put black pepper and some salt, especially on the vegetables..  before cooking
