Question:

A record month set by not having any sunspots, do we now need to be concerned with global cooling.?

Should we now encourage the burning of fossil fuels, how did humans cause the sunspot shortage, we are always to blame somehow by the environazi.

In the past 1000 years, three previous such events -- the Dalton, Maunder, and Spörer Minimums, have all led to rapid cooling. One was large enough to be called a "mini ice age". For a society dependent on agriculture, cold is more damaging than heat. The growing season shortens, yields drop, and the occurrence of crop-destroying frosts increases.

  1. Don't expect any warming until 2010, cycle 24 is going to be a h_ll raiser.

  2. The AGW cult will believe in warming until their leaders reverese and blame humans for cooling and we will have to hear about that and how it is the fault of humaninty.  They have to have a cause and some one to blame it on it is at the core of who they are.

  3. This graph, from your link, does NOT correspond to temperature graphs.

    1. Your links show 1998, 2005 and 2007 solar activity was unremarkable to low, yet annual means are .57, .62 and .57 (C), respectively. No correlation!

    2. 1991 and 1993 show spikes in solar activity, but their respective annual means are .35 and .14 (C) respectively. No correlation!

Climatologists have always understood the sun has a role in climate change. You never got the memo, or conveniently decided to ignore it so as to perpetuate your myth.

  4. Yes - Climatologist are now predicting that we could see a 2 degree drop in just 20 years.

That's 5 times the current rate of change for "Global Warming".

  5. No.

Sunspots have little effect on temperature.  Proof:

  6. The sunspot cycle is a 14-year event.  It just happens that this year includes the minimum of the cycle so no sunspots in any month of the year of minimum isn't surprising.

Your question reveals basic ignorance, simple prejudice, and typical over-reaction to the causes-and-effects relative to heating/warming of the earth's atmosphere.

  7. I sure wish Adam would back up his assertions with real evidence because even the IPCC has finally admitted things are going to cool off to at least mid 70s levels if not late 40s.

  8. Yes-- no sunspots for a LONG while now-- this year will be cooler AGAIN.

  9. I am certainly more worried about global cooling than warming.  Clearly lack of sunspots is worrying since it happens during periods of decreased solar outputs and is linked to cooling as you suggested.  Perhaps our increased CO2 will provide a bit of a cushion for that scenario but I am skeptical.  In any event, I am not too worried either way.

Adam C is incorrect as is demonstrated by the following link:

Do these alarmist ever look at the facts or are they simply interested in preserving their pet scarenario, global warming?

The truth is, solar output can include various things.  Those things that affect the climate may have to do with particular ranges of radiation and the cosmic rays.  There is too much we don't understand.  If you look at my graph, you can see a correlation.  Having a bunch of pompous arrogant bureaucrats claim that there is no correlation, and alarmists lap it all up, is insulting to our intelligence.

  10. Is this myth STILL circulating? Wow! Thought it was long dead...

Sunspots have no affect whatosever on the current planetary warming so, no is the answer.

The IPCC found that "the maximum likely influence of solar" fluctuations on climate change is just 20%.

And a recent analysis has shown that "the sun's activity has been decreasing since 1985, [yet] global temperatures have continued to rise". "The issue of whether the sun's activity is causing global warming had been dispensed with by most scientists long ago."

  11. NOAA:

"Also, the seven months from January to July 2008 ranked as the ninth warmest seven-month period for combined average global land and ocean surface temperature."

    and

"The combined global land and ocean surface temperature tied with 2001 and 2003 as the fifth warmest July on record"

    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/rese...

Just how could that be, since the sunspot count has been so low, as shown in your link???
