I was given a referral from my dentist to an oral surgeon, who—come to find out—no longer takes my insurance policy. But the secretary said "we can process it"...is this wise to bother going to these folks or should I get referred to another in my policy? Any extra costs associated?

Thanks all!

  1. i use a dentist that does not take my insurrance and for every apointment i pay out of pocket and they process it, a week or so later i get a check from my insurrance company. i was worried at first that it would be a huge probelms but it worked out and i didn't have to find a new dentist.

  2. Much better for you to be referred to someone who takes your insurance and is a participating provider in your insurance network. Otherwise you will be billed for costs not covered and probably even the office time to complete paperwork.  Find another oral surgeoin, in network;  then have your dentist provide referral there.
