  1. I have always made it a point to avoid a restaurant that places more emphases on dress code than product and snotty etiquette. I refuse to eat a 50 dollar a plate pasta dish with things in my salad that crawl the streets of Seattle after a hard rain and call it tasty. Give me a rare Tbone with a baked potato, corn on the cob, and a green salad at Chili's any day for less than half of that in a snooty Bistro.

  2. I've never been to this place. But I love going to gourmet restaurants. Just because you're dressing up and eating in a different *elegant* atmosphere doesn't mean people are snotty, as some might think. Lol. It's a nice treat once in a while, especially if you're celebrating, or if you just want a change from normal. It's also a nice gesture to your girlfriend.

    Have fun!

  3. That's a really nice idea and I'm sure she will love it. A nice restaurant doesn't mean "stuffy" or pretend at all. You'll be treated to really nice service where people don't call you "you guys" and don't try to become your best buddy to run up your bar tab. Good service is actually more "real" than those other joints where the server is faking up to you just to get a bigger tip.

Anyway, wear a suit or slacks and sport coat. You'll have a great time and your girlfriend will appreciate the change in scenery.

    :-)

  4. Personally, I would not spend my money in one of those pretend-class places.

Once, my daughter and her husband were given a gift certificate for a nice dinner at a classy place.  They didn't realize that this place had a so called "dress code".  My daughter was wearing a nice pair of slacks, dressy sandals and nice blouse.  Her husband had nice clothes, no tie. They were turned away.  How phoney!

When we went to that city to visit them, we all went to dinner at a fancy place.  Waiters, other staff, were dressed nicely. The view of the ocean from the plate glass windows absolutely sparkled. Food was fantastically memorable.  And they didn't care one whit that we were wearing decent clothes, but not all dressy.  Our money was as green as anyone else's.  We were treated very well. Now, THAT'S real class!
