Manchester United vs. Wolverhampton
Both Barclays Premier League sides were in action against each other in Carling Cup’s fourth round fixture. Sir Alex Ferguson’s new signing Chicharito took the plaudits again to keep Manchester United’s hopes of a third consecutive
League Cup alive with a 3-2 wins over Mick McCarthy’s men.
In the dying stages of the knock-out fixture, Chicharito came off the bench to score the crucial goal on 90th minute and send his team through to the quarter-finals.
Wigan Athletic vs. Swansea City
Wigan Athletic defeated Swansea City by goal to nil thanks to Mauro Boselli, who scored the vital first goal of the match.  The Argentinean striker found the net for the first time for his new club.
Roberto Martinez bought Mauro Boselli from Estudiantes for round about 6 million. Moreover, Martinez was also able to defeat his former club for the first time in his career.
Swansea City forward, Cedric van der Gun should have scored in the starting minutes but Mauro gave Roberto Martinez’s side a 51st-minute advantage and Ben Watson added a late penalty.
Leicester City vs. West Bromwich Albion
Conrad Logan, goalkeeper of home side gifted the Baggies their place with a mistake that swung the match firmly in the visitors' direction.
The League Cup fixture was locked at 1-1 after a Simon Cox strike for Albion and a Nicky Shorey own-goal. But City’s goalkeeper spilled the ball at West Brom forward’s feet to concede the dead locker.  
Following the blunder of Conrad Logan, West Bromwich Albion scored two more times and secured their place for the quarter final of this tournament.
Birmingham City vs. Brentford
Barclays Premier league’s another outfit, Birmingham City, also made it through to the quarter-final of the League Cup by defeating Championship side Brentford on penalties.
Birmingham City shot stopper made the decisive save to deny Craig Woodman from the penalty spot.
The League One side dominated the match, and showed their superb performance throughout ninety minutes. Until, Kevin Phillips scored an equalising goal in an injury time of the match.
Arsenal vs. Newcastle United  
It was another Carling Cup match between two Barclays Premier League team. London giants, Arsenal defeated Newcastle United with four goals to nil. English speedy winger, Theo Walcott scored two goals in this match to ensure a place
for the Gunners into the last eight.
Arsenal was gifted with an own in the injury time of first half. Along with that, Theo Walcott scored in the 53rd minute to make it two for the Gunners. Later on, in the 80th minute Bendtner bombarded from
the box to make it three for Arsenal. With two minutes reaming, Arsenal’s pacey striker added another goal to finish off the game.   
West Ham United vs. Stoke City
It was another League cup match, featuring both premier league teams. The Hammers were rescued by their substitutes as they helped seal a place in the quarter-final with an extra-time win over the Potters.
Stoke City looked set to pile the pressure on Avram Grant after the Hammers missed several chances to cancel out Stoke City’s early opener.
But Scott Parker, the talismanic skipper of the Hammers rescued his side and scored in the dying stages of the match to level the game
However, after that Hammers substitutes scored two goals to earn a crucial win.
Aston Villa vs. Burnley
This Carling cup match also went into extra time to see off the Championship club Burnley.
Stewart Downing of Aston Villa scored the winner with a powerful shot after 96 minutes.
Carlisle cancelled out home side’s lead with just a minute of normal time remaining.
Moreover, Aston Villa’s Albrighton was red carded after the decisive goal.
