I'm thinking of getting a riding lawn mower so that I could at least enjoy mowing our lawn. But they may not be all that safe ( http://www.wrightlawncare.com/blog/riding-lawn-mower-safety-advice/ ), so maybe I'll get a simple mower? I can't make up my mind.. Which is one is safer?

  1. Lawn equipment is as safe as the person operating them just follow the safe operating procedures and you will be safe with either the riding or push mowers. I wish you the best of luck in your decision .

  2. A riding mower is fine if you mow at least 1 acre and the ground is fairley level. If you don't have a huge yard, I would suggest a self propelled mower. I have a self propelled mower with 3 speeds. I use a speed that is comfortable to me. It takes all the work out of it and is like taking a nice walk. It is also good for you.

  3. I bought a Craftsman riding mower from Sears and love it.  It's full of safety features and makes mowing so much more enjoyable than having to push a mower or pull a rope to crank one.  I got the mulching kind so it doesn't even have an open side chute to worry about throwing rocks or anything out of to injure anyone.  At just over $1000 I think it's a great deal.  I've had it for 5 yrs now without a problem except for replacing the battery last year.  It cranks first time, every time.

  4. Riding mowers are only viable if you have a large lawn -- of at least a 1/2 acre. Otherwise it is a waste of money and gas -- they aren't cheap to buy or to run.

It is definitely true you can turn over a ride-on if you are not careful on slopes. Like all power equipment, it can be dangerous if used improperly and the bigger it is the more dangerous.

  5. Riding for sure, I hate cutting grass the only good thing is mounting my mower and riding into the sunset. Seriously, the safety of a simple mower seen more dangerous than a riding mower.

    Good Luck

  6. OH GET YOURSELF A RIDING LAWN MOWER, THERE SO MUCH FUN + LOOK AT ALL THE TIME YOU'LL SAVE TO DO OTHER THINGS.

  7. depending on how large your lawn is ,if you have acres to mowi wou;ld go for the ride-on,however if it,s smaller i would opt for a self propelled mower ,these are great, one just basiacally walks along behind with minimum effort.

  8. That depends on whether your lawn is big enough to warrant a riding mower. Think of it this way - are you going to want to push a lawn mower all over the area you're going to be cutting in the middle of the summer?

Also, regarding safety - that link basically said they're only dangerous when people do stupid things, like let little kids ride in their laps. Or, they can throw rocks or sticks in your face (just like a push mower can).
